The Gnomes

The Gnomes were a mid-1960s garage rock band associated with the Milwaukee and Chicago music scenes. They are best known for their rare 1966 single "The Sky Is Falling" b/w "Something's Going Wrong," released on the Chicago-based Afton Records (Afton 1702). The record was produced by Vic Faraci, who also produced the seminal Milwaukee garage band The Five Bucks. Though the specific hometown of the members has been a subject of debate among garage rock historians (with some researchers pointing to Lowell, Massachusetts), the band's association with the Afton/Vic-Mil label stable and their inclusion in region-specific retrospectives like Gary E. Myers' "On That Wisconsin Beat" has solidified their status within the Milwaukee underground music lore of the era. Their sound combined traditional garage rock energy with melodic pop-ballad sensibilities.
