Ossilegium
About
Ossilegium is a Chicago-based melodic black metal project formed in 2020 by members of the local and Wisconsin underground scenes. The group serves as a continuation of the band Empyreus (active 2009–2019) and is led by guitarist/songwriter Eggo, who is also known for his work in the band Commandant. Their sound is heavily inspired by 1990s Swedish melodic black and death metal, blending aggressive riffs with haunting melodic atmospheres. After several years of development, the band released their debut full-length album, 'The Gods Below,' in May 2024 via Personal Records. The name 'Ossilegium' refers to the ancient practice of gathering and re-interring the bones of the deceased, reflecting the band's focus on themes of death, antiquity, and cosmic entropy.
