About
Formed in 1990 at Indiana University in Bloomington, Johnny Socko! (often stylized with an exclamation mark) was a powerhouse of the 1990s Midwest underground music scene. Known for their high-octane blend of third-wave ska, funk, and rock, the band performed over 2,000 live shows across the United States, earning a reputation as one of the hardest-working acts on the road. Their name was inspired by the 1960s Japanese TV series 'Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot.' The band released several influential albums, including 'Bovaquarium' and 'Full Trucker Effect,' the latter of which features their most recognizable song. After a lengthy hiatus following their 2003 dissolution, the band's original lineup returned for a series of successful reunion shows and 30th-anniversary reissues in 2025 and 2026.
