Hinayana is an American melodic death metal and doom metal band from Austin, Texas. Formed in 2014 by vocalist and guitarist Casey Hurd, the band initially began as a one-man project. The name 'Hinayana' is derived from a Sanskrit term meaning the 'smaller vehicle' or 'lesser path' to enlightenment, symbolizing the inner struggles and suffering one must overcome to find truth in all aspects of life. In 2018, Hinayana released their debut full-length album, 'Order Divine,' which garnered significant attention in the metal community. The band has since shared the stage with acts such as Eluveitie, Ensiferum, Septicflesh, Carach Angren, Mors Principium Est, Alestorm, and Gloryhammer. In 2020, they signed with Napalm Records and released the EP 'Death of the Cosmic.' Their second full-length album, 'Shatter and Fall,' was released on November 10, 2023, further solidifying their presence in the melodic death metal scene.
