Demoniac
About
Demoniac was an influential blackened power metal band from Wellington, New Zealand, formed in 1993. Founded by Lindsay 'Behemoth' Dawson and Sam 'Heimdall' Totman, the band is widely recognized as the predecessor to the world-famous power metal band DragonForce. Initially focused on a raw, controversial black metal sound, they released 'Prepare for War' (1994) and 'Stormblade' (1996) before relocating to London, UK, in 1997. Following the move, they were joined by guitarist Herman Li and shifted toward a high-speed, melodic power metal style while retaining harsh vocals. Their final album, 'The Fire and the Wind' (1999), gained cult status before the group disbanded later that year. Sam Totman and Herman Li went on to found DragonHeart (later DragonForce), carrying over many of Demoniac's technical and melodic sensibilities.
