About
The Smithereens are an American rock band formed in 1980 in Carteret, New Jersey. The original lineup consisted of Pat DiNizio (vocals and guitar), Jim Babjak (guitar and vocals), Mike Mesaros (bass guitar and vocals), and Dennis Diken (drums and percussion). They are known for hits like "Only a Memory," "A Girl Like You," and "Too Much Passion," and have collaborated with artists such as Belinda Carlisle, Julian Lennon, Lou Reed, and Suzanne Vega. The band's name is inspired by a catchphrase from the cartoon character Yosemite Sam, "Varmint, I'm a-gonna blow you to smithereens!"
