About
The Cell Phones are a Chicago-based power trio established in 2008, consisting of Lindsey Charles (vocals), Ryan Szeszycki (bass), and Justin Purcell (drums). The band is known for their self-described "Girlgroup Grindcore" sound, which blends aggressive grindcore breakdowns with melodic, grungy doo-wop and pop-inflected vocals. They are a prominent fixture in the Midwest underground scene, frequently performing at venues in Chicago and Milwaukee, such as the Empty Bottle and BOUNCE. Their discography includes the 2017 album "No" and the 2021 release "Battery Lower," the latter of which received critical acclaim for its idiosyncratic style and lyrical focus on both political frustration and pop-culture commentary.
