About
Pigeon Pit is a folk-punk band from Olympia, Washington, formed in 2014 by frontwoman Lomes Oleander. Initially a solo project, Oleander's "maximalist journaling" approach to songwriting weaves together vivid vignettes of self-acceptance and survival, drawing from experiences in the anarchic punk scene of Santa Cruz, chemical escapism in Seattle basements, and cross-country freight train rides through queer counterculture. After a debilitating injury in 2020, Oleander expanded Pigeon Pit into a full band, incorporating violin and pedal steel guitar on the album "Feather River Canyon Blues," channeling psychedelic country and DIY pop-punk influences reminiscent of Gram Parsons, The Weakerthans, and P.S. Eliot. The band's music explores themes of queerness, grief, attachment, and political struggle, maintaining a fierce DIY ethos by performing in punk house basements and generator shows, as well as touring with artists like Laura Jane Grace and AJJ. In 2025, Pigeon Pit released two full-length albums: "Crazy Arms," which blended field recordings and layered instrumentation into a dense emotional collage, and "Leash Aggression," embracing a raw, stripped-down sound that showcases the band's evolution as a live unit and serves as their most explicitly political work to date.
