Mortuary is a pioneer of the Mexican extreme metal scene, formed in Monterrey in 1986. As one of the earliest and most influential death metal acts in Mexico, they gained significant international attention with their 1991 debut album 'Blackened Images'. The band is known for blending aggressive thrash rhythms with technical death metal structures. Despite a hiatus between 1997 and 2008 and the passing of founding vocalist/bassist Joel Alanis in 2018, the group remains active, having released 'The Autophagous Reign' in 2019 and continuing to perform at major international metal festivals.
