Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band formed in 1993 in Jessheim. The group was founded by Shagrath, Silenoz, and Tjodalv, taking their name from the Dimmuborgir lava fields in Iceland. They are pioneers of the genre, known for blending extreme metal with complex orchestral and symphonic elements. Over their three-decade career, they have released influential albums such as 'Enthrone Darkness Triumphant' and 'Death Cult Armageddon,' becoming one of the most commercially successful black metal acts globally.
