Founded in 1993 by drummer Lille Gruber and his late father Wolfgang Teske, Defeated Sanity is a cornerstone of the technical brutal death metal scene. Originally hailing from Dachsbach but long associated with Berlin, the band is renowned for a unique sound that fuses extreme slam brutality with complex jazz-influenced arrangements and progressive structures. Over three decades, they have evolved from their early demos to Billboard-charting releases such as The Sanguinary Impetus and their 2024 album Chronicles of Lunacy. The current lineup features Gruber alongside bassist Jacob Schmidt, vocalist Josh Welshman, and guitarist Vaughn Stoffey.
