Black Anvil
About
Black Anvil is a prominent black metal band formed in 2007 in New York City. The group was founded by Paul Delaney (vocals/bass), Gary Bennett (guitar), and Raeph Glicken (drums), all of whom were veteran members of the influential NYC hardcore band Kill Your Idols. This hardcore pedigree gives the band a distinct, aggressive 'urban' edge that sets them apart from traditional Scandinavian black metal. They released their debut album, 'Time Insults the Mind,' in 2008 on Monumentum Records before signing with Relapse Records for subsequent releases like 'Triumvirate' (2010) and 'Hail Death' (2014). Their sound has evolved over time, incorporating more melodic, progressive, and traditional heavy metal influences on albums such as 'As Was' (2017) and 'Regenesis' (2022), the latter released via Season of Mist. While based in NYC, they are staples of the North American underground metal circuit and are frequent performers in the Milwaukee/Wisconsin scene, particularly as a recurring act at the Milwaukee Metal Fest and venues like The Rave/Eagles Club.
