The Barbarians of California
About
The Barbarians of California is a post-hardcore and metal collective formed in Los Angeles by Aaron Bruno (AWOLNATION) and veteran producer/engineer Eric Stenman. The project serves as a return to the members' roots in the 1990s hardcore and skate punk scenes, featuring a lineup that includes guitarist Zach Irons and drummer Isaac Carpenter. The band's debut album, 'Megatons,' features high-profile collaborations with artists such as Keith Buckley (Every Time I Die) and Tim McIlrath (Rise Against). The group's sound, which they occasionally refer to as 'Gnarlycore,' blends aggressive chords and rhythms with Bruno's signature vocal intensity. Notably, the band members have stated that their original name choice was already taken by a group in Milwaukee, leading them to choose their current name as a tribute to their California upbringing and the misfit camaraderie of the underground skating scene.
