About
Altered States was a foundational DIY hardcore band in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin underground music scene of the early 1990s. The group is notable for featuring drummer Damon Atkinson, who later achieved wider recognition as a member of Figurehead, Braid, and Hey Mercedes. Active during the peak of the local cassette-trading and 7-inch DIY culture, Altered States was part of a close-knit community of Milwaukee musicians that shared members and stages, influencing the early development of the region's emo and post-hardcore sounds before transitioning into other projects such as Figurehead in 1991.
